bringing light to the dark

ILLUME WORKSHOP

Illume: Bringing Light to the Dark
Wednesday, March 28th – The Monson Center, Salt Lake City, Utah

I have always been a firm believer in using the best tool for the job. Natural light tells an impeccable story and we all love it, but sometimes, it just isn’t enough. Over the years, mastering artificial light has afforded me all the tools I need to tell a full visual story, no matter the circumstance.

Illume is truly a unique workshop experience… it offers you the rare chance to practice working with the often misunderstood and misused medium of artificial light with me to help you every step of the way, offering feedback, support and guidance. We will be walking through all the events of a entire of a wedding reception. From the first dance to the grand exit, we will physically go through these discussing both bounce flash and off camera flash. I will walk through what I do, as well as giving you the opportunity to practice, troubleshoot these events in real time, with real set-ups in a real venue with real couples. It’s like totally real. Illume offers a solid foundation from which to work effectively with artificial light. With this knowledge base you will be able total those techniques and establish your own signature and style.

Over the years I have spent a lot of time second shooting weddings in order to have those opportunities to experiment with artificial light. Without taking the time to second shoot other weddings, practicing these techniques are not feasible to do on your own clients. And even if you do get opportunities to second shoot, you don’t get the chance to troubleshoot… to try that again and figure out why it didn’t work or why it did. Illume gives you JUST THAT.

If you do not own speedlights or pocket wizards, don’t fret. Pictureline will be on hand to provide the equipment you will need.

But really, let’s be honest. Being able to actually practice all of this in a realistic reception environment, (and not on your stuffed animals at home), is the clincher. Save yourself a TON of time sorting through online tutorials and get yourself some hands on experience.

We will also have the opportunity to have industry leader Caroline Tran guest speak on her Hybrid Workflow… AMAZING!

This year I have opened up a DAY educational opportunity focused on beginning to advance film education. If this is the first time you are shooting a film camera or want to stretch yourself in a non-client environment, this is for you! I am grateful that The FIND Lab will also be there to discuss working with your lab, film applications, such as the best low light stocks and pushing film. You will have many opportunities experiment and try something new. We will have an INCREDIBLE set up for you to get inspired and creative some beautiful imagery! This is an add on to the night version and is currently only available to students coming to the evening portion. By signing up for both day and night, you will have a complete wedding day walk through experience. It’s going to be one fine day.

Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to learn how to make artificial light work for you every single time. Good photographers can shoot in pretty light… Great photographers can make it work in any light.
